La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board
ABOUT JERRY LECKO
Jerry is proud to live within the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District.
As residents of La Mesa for 28 years, Jerry and his wife of 36 years, Lisa, happily established themselves and raised their family right here in our area. As a licensed architect, Jerry maintained his design and consulting practice in La Mesa for over 25 years. Lisa works as an Administrative Assistant at Kaiser Permanente.
Jerry and Lisa have two children, Kelly and Alex. Both attended LM-SV schools from kindergarten through 8th grade, and graduated from Helix Charter High School. Daughter Kelly has graduated from the University of Redlands and is currently an outdoor education teacher in Virginia. Son Alex graduated from the University of the Pacific in 2015 and is in marketing and sales in the Bay Area.
During the time their children attended LM-SV schools, both Lisa and Jerry actively volunteered within the school system. Jerry, in particular, has now been a volunteer within our District for over 20 years. He has held positions including middle school PTA President, School Site Council member, representative to District Advisory Council, Chair of the District Advisory Council, Vice President on Mt. Helix Council of PTA’s, and Chair of the $44 million Proposition M Citizens Bond Oversight Committee. Jerry has received the Honorary Service Award from PTA, as well as the prestigious District-wide ROSE (Recognized for Outstanding Service to Education) Award in 2007.
In early 2013 a vacancy occurred on the LM-SV District School Board. Due to his ongoing attendance at School Board meetings and experience within the District, Jerry was appointed to fill the vacancy in March 2013 and served on the School Board until the end of 2014.
From the first day of his appointment, Jerry sought to use that opportunity not for personal or political gain, but to continue his active engagement throughout the District. During his time on the Board, he visited a majority of the schools, as well as met extensively with principals, teachers, counselors, support staff, administrators, and parents. During these school site visits, Jerry continued to be impressed with the professionalism and commitment of the District Staff, in particular during the fiscally-challenging Great Recession of 2008-10. As a Board Member, Jerry participated in parent groups including the District English Language Acquisition Advisory Council (DELAC), District Advisory Council and Mt. Helix Council of PTA’s. Additionally, Jerry served on the Superintendent's 20/20 District Visioning and Planning Advisory Group that set priorities and goals for the LM-SV School District.
From over 20 years ago, when he first began actively volunteering within the LM-SV School District, up to today, Jerry has exhibited the heart of a servant – looking to improve other’s lives through his efforts. His focus has always been on others, and what he can do to help out, boost spirit, show recognition, and build a District Team. Jerry’s sole motivation has always been to provide the best possible learning and development opportunities for our community's children.
